Finch & Partners Clay Pigeon Shooting

There’s only one thing you can get away with wearing at a clay pigeon shooting event – and that’s tweed. Sadly, not being a lady who loves textured clothing, it was only when I discovered a leaner look in the form of a grey and black Belstaff jacket that I was able to accept the invite. Brown tweed and a black loving girl just don’t get on.

Unfortunately, looking the part doesn’t make you a perfect shot out in the field. After a quick lesson – not to mention a bacon and sausage roll and a good cup of English tea – I did actually manage to hit something, but let’s just say I wasn’t surprised when my name wasn’t called out at lunch.
When I’d got over the fact I was tucking into yet another turkey dinner, it was time for yet more style spotting. Charles Finch was a great host yet again, but I have to say, my male style points go jointly to Nick Folkes who wore amazing socks with tassels and Tom Stubb with his amazing cape.

I was lucky enough to borrow a hat from the lovely designer Zoe Jordan, who picked up female performer on the day. Maybe with a bit of practice I’ll actually be some competition for her next year!

Thanksgiving lunch

Where: The Palm Restaurant, London
Joanne Black Style: Sharon Wauchob blouse and jacket, Jitrois leather leggings worn with knee high Lazar cut-over-the-knee boots

Having lived in New York for 3 years, I find it hard now to get through November without Thanksgiving. So, when invited to a London lunch hosted by Arnaud and Carla Bamberger and Charles and Sydney Finch, I jumped at the chance to join the celebrations.

The Bambergers and the Finches certainly know how to attract a stylish crowd. Elettra Rossellini – the face of Lancome – wore a fab pair of green tights with a short LBD showing of her long legs, models Astrid Munoz looked great in a mustard top (the perfect colour for her skin tone), while English rose Saffron Aldridge kept it simple and stunning in a white shirt. Hostess Sydney stole the show, however, with an elegant grey textured wool Prada dress.

Given I will be basking on a beach in the sun when most people are tucking into Christmas lunch this year, a three course lunch with turkey and all the trimmings was a welcome sight. Whoever said beautiful people don’t eat, though, obviously hasn’t been to a Thanksgiving event. I have never seen pecan pie disappear so fast and plates look so spotless!

The Didier Drogba Foundation Ball

Joanne Black Style: blackless Alaia bodycon dress, Sergio Rossi heels, and a Chanel bag

Charity bashes don’t come much more star-studded than this. Looking every inch the football star – dressed in a black tux and a trendy skinny tie – Didier Drogba opened the doors of The Dorchester to a whole range of celebrities from both on and off the field to raise money for the building of a hospital in Ivory Coast.

Footballers Joe and Ashley Cole, John Terry, Claude Makelele and rugby star Danny Cipriani joined a whole host of stars to enjoy a night of live entertainment from The Brand New Heavies and JLS, great dancing (from none other than Akon who kept me on the dance floor all night) and auctioning of top prizes – including a style session with me!

This wasn’t just a night about sexy celeb spotting or short and edgy cocktail dresses – the fashionista style for the evening. Didier Drogba gave an emotional and passionate speech about the need for a new hospital in Abidjan, his home city, to help those suffering from Leukaemia. His story about a friend who died because he couldn’t travel to get treatment led to more than £500,000 being donated in support of the cause. Not bad for a night on the town.

Winter party to launch Somerset House ice rink

Joanne Black on the Somerset House Ice Rink

Where: Somerset House
Joanne Black Style: Stella McCartney black polo, black and white cape and Daniela Besso merino wool and cashmere mix coat, with knee length Miu Miu black boots and YSL bag.

If you’re looking for a spot of cool ice rink fashion, look no further than Somerset House.

Everyone from Penny Lancaster and Trinny Woodall to Alexa Chung and Lily Cole – dressed in warm winter glamour – descended on Somerset House on Monday night to celebrate the start of the ice rink’s tenth anniversary season. Thandie Newton, who turned on the Tiffany tree, looked particularly fab in a feathered black hat with great red shoes and a cool red clutch.

Of course, less stylish were the moves on show at the newly iced rink. While designers Julien McDonald and Melissa Odabash took to the ice like professionals, I was left clinging to my friend Jonathan as I attempted to complete two laps. For a total beginner I think I was lucky my Daniela Besso coat didn’t have a rather icy encounter. Actually, I think I might be back later on in the season for a solo skate!

Mika’s Songs For Sorrow book launch

Joanne Black with Mika

Where: Lanvin Men, Savile Row
Joanne Black Style: Lanvin T-shirt, Wolford body, YSL bag, Sharon Wauchob jacket, Jitrois leather leggings and Sergio Rossi over-the-knee boots.

When great style, great music and great design come together the result is every bit as fashionable as it sounds. Lanvin’s Savile Row store provided the perfect setting for an evening of music (from Mika’s iPod), Marrakesh-inspired cocktails and sharp looking men. Mika’s fashionable following – from British film director Mike Figgis and shoe designer Christian Louboutin to Paul Smith and British Milliner Stephen Jones – were out in force to help him celebrate the launch of his limited edition book Songs For Sorrow, which comes with 4 new acoustic tracks.

Lanvin’s very own designer Alber Elbaz was among those designers and artists chosen to illustrate one of the new songs for the book. His beautiful mermaid – dressed in Lanvin no doubt – was designed to accompany the song Lady Jane and showed just what an accomplished artist he is.

After my fill of celeb style, I snuck away with my complimentary CD to listen to Mika’s new songs. I recommend Toy Boy – it’s very catchy and worth the trip to Lanvin just to hear!
