Location: POPB – Salle Marcel Cerdan
Joanne Black Style: black Martin Margiela dress, Alaia ankle boots, Sharon Wauchob jacket and a YSL bag
The collection: The show may have been overshadowed somewhat by questions over the input of Margiela himself, but there was something very interesting and experimental about the use of texture throughout this S/S 2010 collection. With short paper corset dresses, crinkled cloth, synthetic foil, leather white fishermen-style boots, body suits and pieces with trailing tape, the designs certainly pushed the boundaries of what would normally be expected at a Margiela show. The highlight for me was the celebratory finale, which saw models in white short paper dresses surrounded by paper streamers.
The wish list: The bright tropical prints wouldn’t do much for my complexion, but the long black jumpsuit with slits in the legs, the slouchy boots and white leather jacket would certainly add some different textures to my wardrobe.
The style: Singer and Margiela fan Rihanna made a fab entrance in a sheer black mini with one gloved white leather sleeve.
PFW Day one: Sharon Wauchob
Location: Musee de l’homme
Joanne Black Style: Acne skinny jeans, Marc Jacobs t-shirt, Martin Margiela jacket, Georgina Goodman Chelsea boots and a YSL bag
The collection: Everything about Sharon Wauchob’s collection was sharp, cool and edgy. Combining her signature layering technique with more handcrafted traditions such as lace making and crochet, Wauchob’s white, grey and black designs were as absorbing as ever. Metallic beaded shoulder pads, deconstructed jackets, statement dresses, drop-crotch pants and cool white jodhpur trousers – with a twist at the bottom – made this a show that was both bold and beautiful.
The wish list: My wish list always doubles in size after a Wauchob show. I don’t think Spring/Summer 2010 would be the same without her short black dress with a see-through middle, white ruffles silk dress, silk white top with padded shoulders, black dress with layered shoulder detail (fitted at the waist), and short bolero-style black silk jacket.
The style: Both French and Asian fashions were trying to capture the audience’s attention.
Irwin & Jordan pop-up shop launch party
Location: Conduit St London
Joanne Black Style:Acne leather skirt, Issa t-shirt, Wolford leggings, Balenciaga shoes, and a Chanel handbag.
The collection: The Irwin and Jordan show was all about vintage-inspired pieces – with everything from cool leather jackets and silk and wool dresses to wool coatigans. It was Eddie and Zoe Jordan, however, who impressed at every turn – with the Eddie Jordan band, their cool hats and the surprise birthday cake Eddie laid on for Zoe.
The wish list: The fab navy cardie would be the perfect addition to my everyday wear.
The style: Model girl of the moment Poppy Delevigne looked stunning as ever in black skin-tight leggings and spiky boots. Harry Conway had some mean moves dancing along to the band!
Milan Fashion Week: Prada
Location: Prada HQ, Milan
Joanne Black style: Lanvin print dress, Georgina Goodman shoes, Chanel bag
The collection: It was a floor-to-ceiling screen that turned Prada’s headquarters into a world of fantasy and fashion – complete with palm trees, beaches and doors in an Italian street. The scene provided the perfect backdrop for Prada’s much-anticipated S/S 2010 collection. Italy’s style elite was not disappointed. With fantastic grey jackets with visible thread detail, daisy flowers on white and grey dresses, cool shorts, palm tree prints and silk French knickers, this showed excited the senses – and the credit card!
The wish list: I simply loved the use of crystal embellishments within the collection – great for a statement piece to get you through the S/S season. I may be seeking out a pair of oversized clear goggles, which appeared throughout the show.
The style: Italy simply oozes style. Stars of the fashion and sporting world – including French Vogue Editor Carine Roitfeld, Anna Wintour (looking great in brown), Jefferson Hack and Roger Federer – were out in force to catch sight of Prada’s latest pieces.
LFW Day 4: Pringle of Scotland
Location: The Saatchi Gallery
Joanne Black style: Alexandra Wang LBD; Sergio Rossi ankle shoes; Wunderkind leather jacket and a Chanel bag.
The collection: Designer Clare Waight Keller knows how to put on a show. Everything about this collection impressed me – from the neutral colour palette to the short dresses with fab rock ‘n’ roll belts, chunky cable knits and her cool and classic combinations. I was also excited to see Anna Wintour sitting on the front row working her blackberry – and those statement black shades. What a legend!
The wish list: I’ve got my eye on the collection’s fab short grey sexy dress.
The style: Tilda Swinton deserves a mention for her chic and elegant white trouser suit and her fantastic short crop hairstyle.
