The artist, Darren Baker, created this likeness of the Queen’s granddaughter via “pen-input technology” on a hand-held tab let. His previous commissions include a more conventional portrait of the Queen, unveiled last year to mark the 90th anniversary of the Royal British Legion. Miss Phillips, who won a team eventing silver at the Olympics this summer, said: “To give the traditional portrait a modern twist was really appealing.

It was incredible to watch it take shape and to see just how intricate the artist could be.” The portrait is a promotion for the Samsung Galaxy Note II tablet, as Miss Phillips is an ambassador for the brand. It is the latest sponsorship deal for the 31-year-old daughter of the Princess Royal, who also has commercial arrangements with Land Rover, Rolex, Artemis and Musto. Miss Phillips enthused about the device, saying: “Although I’m no artist, it’s great for me – I can keep up to speed on emails, edit and make notes on my training schedule and even watch movies if I find myself with some spare time.” By Anita Singh – www.telegraph.co.uk
